Tram Elettrici Mendrisiensi SA. 5 Azioni Fr. 100.-, Chiasso, 1. Gennaio 1908 with Coupons 1973-1987. Nr. 1043. The Società Tram Elettrici Mendrisiensi SA (TEM) was incorporated in 1907. Construction started the following year with the tramway opening in 1910.The TEM was a meter gauge electric tramway that linked the town of Chiasso with Riva San Vitale, via Balerna, Mendrisio and Capolago. The line's southern terminus in Chiasso was adjacent to the border crossing with Italy. In Capolago the tramway shared the same track with the Monte Generoso railway. The track ran entirely within the street. It had a length of 11.9 km, 49 stops, a maximum gradient of 7.5% and a minimum radius of 25 Meter. In 1950 tramway was closed and the Company changed its name to the Autolinea Mendrisiense SA, which operates Mendrisio's local bus service. This certificate is not canceled and could be exchanged into five new shares of the “Autolinee Mendrisiense S.A". VF.
