"THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS DECANTER comes mostly from our founder, René Lalique, who designed and made the glass lighting decoration of the Normandie ocean liner's dining room and the beautiful glass panels in the 'wagon présidentiel' on the Orient Express train in the 1930s.

The flat shape of the decanter refers to a travelling flask, featuring the wind Rose' on the stopper. In addition to this strong symbol of travel, you can find an interpretation of the stitches around travel trunks framing the main illustration of the ocean liner. This decanter is both a tribute to, and an invitation to, A GOLDEN AGE OF TRAVEL."

An Uplifting Adventure
With the introduction of the first commercial airlines, adventure awaited those 'jet set' few who boarded the almost magical, great silver flying machines - in anticipation of international destinations they had only ever dreamed of. An exotic experience heady with glamour, style and romance. While the lucky few took to the skies, high above the River Spey, the Macallan distillery in the 1930s still employed three horses for 'general duties'. The early years of the decade were tough for all distillers, largely due to the Great Depression and Prohibition in the US. But whilst output was modest, the noted quality of The Macallan was maintained.

RAIL TRAVEL in the 1930s reflected more gracious, elegant age defined by luxury. The train companies projected the mystique and allure of the journey in ways that simple weren't about speed, but promised adventure, first class service and breathtaking scenery for their discerning passengers.

Train steeped in character and personality of their own, headed by locomotives with polish brass nameplates and drives who were hero-worshiped evoked a tremor of anticipation. Elegant decor gave an unmatchable character to the train, with each carriage presenting a gallery of grandeur.

During the 1930s the automobile business flourished and made strides that would set the tone of the industry for decades to come - beautiful silhouettes, sophisticated touches and pioneering inventions all marked a turning point.

Car travel became much more than merely a way of transport, it evolved into a luxurious experience for passengers to savour and relish, similar to the sentiment of enjoying a rare single malt. The automobile transformed from a traditional rigid shape to embrace colour and sleek styling through the art deco movement - beautifully blending modern with industrial design, and this style modern, as it was known, became synonymous with glamour.
