DOW´S - vintage 1985 - Trafalgar Vintage
In original bottle, slightly scuffed label, corroded capsule
Description on the back label: “This 1985 Vintage Port was selected
to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Bottle of Trafalgar,
21st October 1805.
The 1985 harvest produced superb wines. In 2005 this Dow´s Vintage
will be 20 years old, which is considered the peak maturity for Vintage
Port.
The label illustration of Her majesty´s ship VICTORY and
TEMERAIRE attacking the French REDOUTABLE and FOUGEUX
is adapted from the paintings by W-L WYLLIE R.A (Royal Naval
Museum, H.M Naval Base, Portsmouth).
Dow´s Port have made a contribution to Naval Charities for every case
of the wine sold.”
Note: The back of the label is slightly wrong as it states in the reign of
HER Majesty when in fact it should have said HIS majesty as there was
a king on the throne at the time of the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
6 bottles
Tasting Note: “Drinking beautifully now at early optimal maturity, this
has at least another few years of development in front of it and many years
of drinking pleasure after that. Now it is nicely developed, well integrated,
juicy and ripe with a nice balance between its power, weight and
texture; it is succulent but still elegant. Delicious. Really excellent.”
On-Line Publication of Spec´s Update December 2005
