1904 (10 Mar.) picture postcard to "Sandpiper" bearing Hong Kong 4c. cancelled by Shanghai B.P.O. c.d.s. showing Canton transit c.d.s. (3.13). However, by this time, the ship had already left the port and was heading to Hong Kong. Consequently, the mail was redirected to Hong Kong with Hong Kong d.s. (3.14). After arriving in Hong Kong, the ship continued its journey to Kongmoon, so the mail was redirected again, this time via Samshui to Kongmoon, showing Samshui bilingual c.d.s. (3.17) and a rare Kongmoon Post Office bilingual c.d.s.with a handwritten date (3.18). Subsequently, the ship sailed back to Hong Kong, and the mail was redirected to Hong Kong once more, receiving a final cancellation matching with a Hong Kong c.d.s. (3.19)
The reverse side of the postcard features the Shanghai HSBC Building. The entire postal route is clear, and the mail is well-preserved. There are fewer than five known examples of the Kongmoon Post Office bilingual circular date stamp with handwritten date, making it extremely rare. In auctions over the years, such pieces have been considered highly valuable. This particular postcard, with its multiple redirections and the Samshui transit cancellation, is a rare gem in the postal history of Guangdong.
