The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, $1, 20.11.1872, serial number 55271, grey, red '$1 and 1$' left and right, handsigned at lower left, printed signature of James Greig at lower right, reverse purple,
(Pick 111), fair to good, rare. Only three notes graded in the PMG population report illustrating how rare this date is. The important first date of HSBC's $1 issues and the earliest dated Hong Kong note in any way available to collectors. In recent years Spink China has only sold three $1 from 1872: PMG 30 for HKD336,000 in January 2019, PMG 12NET (Rust) for HKD50,400 in August 2019 and HKD$38,400 in PMG 12 (Rust) in Januar2021.
