1897 New Currency Surcharges
Large Figures Surcharge, Narrow Setting, Third Printing
4c. on 4ca. dull pink variety surcharge inverted in a block of four cancelled by a single strike of Pakhoi Dollar dater of 1897 (8 May) (the earliest recorded date for this postmark). These stamps come from the sheet where the surcharge is centred higher and the basic stamps with wide margin at foot showing traces of the designs below. A fine and attractive example of this rare multiple which is the only used block. S.G. 81a; Chan 77b. Photo
