Three different types of paper were employed for the plate proofs:
Thicker paper
Thin, laid paper without watermark
Regular, watermarked stamp paper

For the later Dowager issue, the thin paper was used to check the quality of the clichés in the printing plate. The regular stamp paper would have been used when the plate had been cleaned and reset into a new setting and it is probable that the thicker paper was also used for this reason
