Detained in Hong Kong
1941 (21 Oct.) envelope to U.S.A. bearing 10c. on 25c. tied by a slightly smudged strike of Tsangwu (Pingnam) Chinese/English c.d.s., sent via Hong Kong where it was detained by the Japanese Occupation. The reverse bears the typed label, “After returned from Hongkong where it was originally sent through, and kept for a long time owing to hostilities, this letter is now forwarded via Chungking” and tied by a fine strike of Canton 1942 (20.11), Chungking (14.12) and Tihwa (1.2) c.d.s. in purple. The address side with circular U.S. censor handstamp. There are a few faults but a rare example of this delayed mail from Sinkiang sent by 10c. printed paper rate. Photo
