Lot: 1190

The Malay Peninsula Exploration Syndicate, 2 share certificates for 100 shares of 1 pound each, both dated 20.3.1890, and also a bond certificate for 100 pounds dated 20.3.1890 (a total of 34,000 pounds of bonds issued).

The original company was incorporated on 6th August 1886 and replaced by a new company of the same name in 1889 which acquired its assests and goodwill. The new company 'proposes to construct and manage public works of all kinds in the Malay Peninsula or elsewhere within 1500 miles of Singapore, and also to acquire, settle, improve and cultivate lands and to promote immigration. The capital is 35,100 pounds, divided in 60 A shares of 500 pounds each, 150 B shares of 33pounds 6s 8d each, and 100 C shares of 1 pound each.'
good very fine, there were only a total of 13,000 shares issued and the maximum number of share certificates for block of 100 shares can only be 130 though share certificates with less than 100 shares could have been issued. The bond is of 100 pound denomination and only 340 could have been issued. This makes both documents quite scarce even at the time of issue, let alone through the ages and war (3)
