Large Dragons
Covers
1889 (21 Aug.) neat envelope to Germany bearing, on the address side, Wide Setting 3ca. and Thicker Paper 1ca. and 5ca. cancelled by Peking seal in blue, the 3ca. partly covered by French 25c. tied by "shang-hai/chine" c.d.s. (5.9) with a second strike alongside; transit marks on the reverse with I.G. of Customs, Peking despatch c.d.s. in blue, Shanghai Customs and Munchen arrival (12.10). Paying the correct 9ca. rate to overseas countries. There are traces of the glue around the edges of the adhesives but these are barely visible, the envelope is remarkable clean and fine.

This is unusual in that the adhesives have been applied on the address side which greatly adds to the appeal of this delightful and spectacular cover. A gem of the Large Dragon issue. Peter Holcombe certificate (1983). Photo
