Lot: 1113

Tibet, Tibet, Qian Long (1735-96), Tangka, 57th year (1792), eight auspicious symbols around circular panel, rev. Tibetan legend around square circular panel, no clouds (C# 68), graded PCGS Fine Detail, repaired, extremely rare withdrawn type

This coin was a prototype for the later series of Sino-Tibetan coins. It was rejected by the authorities as it did not bear a Chinese legend. This is why it is rarely found and of the highest rarity in any condition. On later Tankas and Shos, starting year 58, the eight auspicious symbols were replaced by a Chinese translation of the Tibetan legend.
