China, Empire, [NGC PF62] gold proof pattern restrike 1 tael, Hu Poo 'Ku Ping Yi Liang', 29th Year of Guangxu (1903), struck from original Osaka Mint dies in Switzerland in the 1970s. The purpose of these new dies were an attempt to unify Chinese coinage under the gold standard, with 5 denominations created in total; 1/2, 1, 2 5 mace and 1 tael. But the plan was later foiled due to various reasons. Extremely rare and only appears in the market once in a blue moon. Ta Han Collection
