China, British Weihaiwei Royal Navy Canteen, 20 cents, 1920, serial number 17539, vertical format, green, ornate flower and vase design, reverse in English with two blue anchor stamps,
tear, very good. The Royal Navy Canteen was located in the RN headquarter compound on the Island of Liukung. The site was formerly a picturesque sea front Chinese official yamen, and included recreation grounds and tennis courts etc. Building remains today and is currently a China National Priority Protected Site. These tokens were created mainly to prevent local staff from handling cash. Rare and historically important


民國十九年威海衛裏公所貳角，編號17539，直式，華麗的花卉和花瓶設計，背面為英文，並有兩枚藍色的鐵錨印戳，VG品相，有裂。皇家海軍食堂位於劉公島，而劉公島處於威海港灣的中央，軍事上戰略地位重要，被選為北洋海軍及其艦隊的駐泊之所。日本軍在甲午戰爭後占領劉公島3年一直到英國向清廷強租威海衛，長達42年間駐威海衛英軍有建設軍事行政中心、兵營及休閒場地和網球場等。建築物保留至今，目前是中國國家重點保護文物，而這類代用券是為了防止當地員工處理現金而發行的。稀有且具有重要歷史意義
