Auction: 9037 - The "Pierron" Collection of British Commonwealth Missing Colours
Lot: 1587
New Zealand 1973-76 Pictorials 20c. lower left corner block of six (3x2) with plate numbers, the first column with black omitted and the second column with partial omission, fine. With matching normal plate block. Pierron NZ2040MCa, £5,000+; C.P. P15b(Z); S.G. 1020a, £600+. Photo Estimate £ 2,500-3,000 The missing black results in the loss of the Maori tattoo. The left most column of a sheet was affected by the error while the second column was only partially affected. The error is usually available in a progressive strip; the appearance of black in unaffected examples within such strips indicates the error came from a late reprint (circa 1978) in which the black lines of the tattoo are noticeably thinner compared to earlier printings. A further indicator the error came from a late printing is the lack of striations on the gummed side. quantity: 10 mint provenance: Paul Wales
