Auction: 9037 - The "Pierron" Collection of British Commonwealth Missing Colours
Lot: 1196
Canada 2007 (5 Jan.) Chinese New Year 52c., a lower left corner block of four showing imprint and colour dots, each with gold omitted, fine. With matching normal corner block of four. Pierron CA6200MCa, £400+; unlisted in Scott and S.G. Estimate £ 200-250 Note: The missing gold results in the loss of the die-stamped gold flowers from the pig´s body. Pearl, which gives the grey outline of the pig its shimmer, is either weak, partially missing or completely missing – however, it is not practically possible to tell and is mentioned as a point of interest. Ten faulty panes were discovered around the time of release causing Canada Post to check stocks for further examples. Although Canada Post failed to find anything, further panes were subsequently discovered at retail. A total of 33 have been reported so far. Canada Post blames the complexity of the printing process for the error; the eight-colour litho printing was done by Lowe-Martin and the die-stamped gold and pearl process by a third party. quantity: circa 825 mint
