Australia 1977 (19 Jan.) Performing Arts 20c., a lower right corner strip of ten with interpanneau margin at left, the third to tenth stamps with olive-grey omitted and the second stamp with it partly omitted, fine. An extremely rare positional piece. Pierron AU1282MCa, £8,000+; BW 761var; unlisted in S.G. Photo Estimate £ 6,000-8,000 Note: The missing olive-grey results in the loss of chairs and detail from violins. The so-called ´floating violinist´ error was unrecorded prior to November 2006. A second strip with marginal colour bars subsequently appeared at auction in May 2007. The strips come from a complete pane (with the first two columns normal and the remainder affected by the error) discovered in a safety deposit box by estate beneficiaries.
