British East Africa 1895-96 Overprints on Stamps of India 1a. plum with variety Britlsh", marginal from the left of the sheet, together with 1/2a. (marginal from the foot of the sheet), 2a. and 2 1/2a., each neatly cancelled by Mombasa squared-circle d.s. and tied on 1895 (11 Nov.) "first day after transfer" Chambers envelope (crease at left well clear of the adhesives) addressed locally, arrival c.d.s. (11.11) on reverse. Fine and exceptionally rare, being one of only five used examples recorded. S.G. 50a, £4,250+. Photo Estimate £ 2,000-2,500 Note: This highly important error appeared on the four values ( 1/2a., 1a., 2a. and 2 1/2a.) of the first printing. The error is situated in the left vertical row, proved by the existence of covers such as offered above.
