Newport Gas Light Co., £50 share, 1823, no.20, black printing, on vellum, blue seal, 320 issued, about very fine. Newport, Isle of Wight. In 1851 the Newport (I.W.) Gas Company was formed to provide cheaper gas in direct competition with this concern, which it did rather successfully. The £50 shares gradually fell to only £4 at which time the directors sold out to the promoters of the new company. Estimate £ 180
