East London Water Works, certificate for one New £100 share, no.911, London 180(8), black, red paper seal, on vellum, capital £130,000; together with two related transfer certificates dated 1811 and 1830, both printed on vellum, all very fine (3) Estimate £ 90 Established in 1807 with works at Old Ford, Bow. Took over the Shadwell Waterworks Company and the West Ham waterworks prior to 1815 and the Hackney waterworks in 1830. Supplied by the River Lea which was several feet higher than the Thames and built reservoirs at Walthamstow and Finsbury Park. Taken over, with other London companies by the Metropolitan Water Board in 1902.
