Carl Rosa Opera Co. Ltd., £5 ordinary shares, £4 10/- paid, 1889, made out to and signed by Augustus Harris as director of the company, black, small ink stain at top edge, very fine. Great Britain´s oldest opera company founded by Carl Rosa in 1873. This company was formed on his death in 1889 and controlled by theatrical manager Augustus Harris. Estimate £ 150 Sir Augustus Henry Glossop Harris (1852 – 1896), Actor and impressario. Nicknamed the father of modern pantomime. Harris also managed and controlled the Drury Lane Theatre along with several others and also owned the Sunday Times for a short period. He was appointed Sheriff of London in 1891 and later Deputy Lieutenant of the City. He was knighted in 1891.
