Colonial, Charles II (1645-1685), St. Patrick´s coppers, Farthing, King David playing the harp, crown above, floreat-:rex:, rev. St. Patrick holding cross and crozier driving our the reptiles, Cathedral behind (S.6569; DF 342), clear brass plug on the crown, corrosion marks on reverse, good fine Estimate £ 350-450 Examples of these coins struck for use in Ireland between 1661 and 1673, were brought to the American Colonies by Mark Newby in 1681. The coinage was made legal tender by the Assembly of New Jersey in May 1682. The brass insert clearly visible on this coin, was added to make counterfeiting more difficult.
