Italy, Antione Perrenot, Cardinal Granvelle (1516-86), AE gilt medal by Giovanni Melone, ant. s.r.e. pbr. card. granvelanvs, bust of the cardinal left, wearing hodded cassock, signed melon f incuse on truncation, rev. Grenvelle, wearing mitre and bishop´s robes, seated on a curule chair before an altar, presents a standard to Don Juan of Austria who kneels before him, an audience including many soldiers carrying halberds around them, in the background an arcade with pilasters and in hoc vinces above, 43mm. (Armand 1, 265, 12; Attwood 985; Bargello 748; Smolderen ´Granvelle´ XXV; Voltolina 758), very fine, a rare original gilt example of this famous medal, the gilding rubbed on the highpoints, a mount removed at 12 o´clock Estimate £ 300-400
