Anglo Saxon, early period, ultra-Crondall types, c.620-655, ´Benutigo´ type Thrymsa, 1.30g, diademed bust, right blundered legend, oiËËvvv,, rev. cross on steps, runic legend (Sutherland 17a, plate 1 no.23- die duplicate; N.11; S.760), roundly struck, bold bust, weakness on reverse, a superb example of an Anglo-Saxon Thrymsa only the fourth example recorded for this type, extremely rare Estimate £ 4,000-5,000 Provenance Found Surrey / Hampshire border, 2009 The FitzWilliam Museum´s Early Medieval Corpus (EMC) lists three coins of this type: 1. Sutherland 17a, 1.26g, found at Eastleach Turville, Glos. EMC 1948.0017- 2. Sutherland 17b, wnr, SCBI20/307 (Mack) 3. Sutherland 18b, 1.31g, found at Dorchester, Oxon, 1848, EMC 1948.00182 This new example is a die duplicate of Sutherland 17a.
