Highland Society´s Medal for Egypt 1801, 49mm, silver, edge inscribed ´By the Highland Society of London´, minor contact marks, therefore good very fine Estimate £ 300-400 The Highland and Agricultural Society´´s Medals were awarded to the relatives of the 42nd Highlanders (the Black Watch) killed in action at Alexandria, 21.3.1801, where the Regiment captured a standard from the French Invincible Legion. Gold Medals were presented to General Abercromby´´s sons, Silver Medals to Officers, and Bronze Medals to other ranks. General Abercrombie, who led the British expedition, was mortally wounded during the attack on the 21st March, and died on his flagship seven days later.
