R.A.), minor edge knock to second, generally very fine or better (3) Estimate £ 500-600 Sergeant Major Thomas Whitbread, born Tunbridge Wells, Kent, 1836; enlisted as Gunner in the 6th Battalion, Royal Artillery, October 1857; Corporal, September 1865; Sergeant, March 1868; served in Gibraltar for two years and eleven months; and in India for 12 years and nine months; Appointed Battery Sergeant Major, December 1875; discharged May 1879 after 21 years and 231 days with the Colours.
