Four: Private G. Illingworth, 40th Foot, Late 20th Foot Crimea 1854-56, four clasps, Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol (Geo.... Ainsley Illingworth...gt), contemporarily engraved in serif capitals, edge details worn in places, right side of 1st clasp sprung, top lugs adapted to form part of a riband buckle; Indian Mutiny 1857-58, one clasp, Lucknow (G. Illingworth, 1st Bn. 20th Regt.); New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated 1863 (661 G Illingworth, 40th Regt.), with contemporary silver top riband buckle; Turkish Crimea, British die, unnamed as issued, pierced for ring suspension, with eyelet ring added and contemporary silver riband buckle, heavy contact marks to 1st therefore good fine, others very fine or better (4) Estimate £ 750-850 661 Private George Ainsley Illingworth, born Halifax, Yorkshire; originally joined the 20th Foot and saw service with the regiment in the Crimea and during the Indian Mutiny before transferring to the 40th Foot, 1860; discharged 1870, after an accident that occurred whilst in Barracks resulting in Illingworth having his leg amputated. Published transcription of Indian Mutiny roll erroneously gives recipient´´s initial as ´´J´´. Approximately 14 ´´1863´´ reverse dated New Zealand medals to the 40th Foot.
