Military Cross, G.V.R., reverse contemporarily engraved, ´Captain J.H. Standrick, M.C. 2/18 London Irish Rifles. For Conspicuous Gallantry and Good Leadership on the Field. Gaza Novr. 1917. Died of Wounds Feb. 21st 1918 Aged 25yrs.´, extremely fine Estimate £ 400-450 M.C. London Gazette 18.2.1918 Lt. (A./Capt.) John Harold Standrick, Lond. R., citation published in the London Gazette of 18.7.1918, ´´For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. It was due to his skill and ability as a leader that the success of the operations against the main enemy defence line was so marked. His task was one of great responsibility, as his company was the directing pivot of the movement forward for the final assault. Throughout the day he showed exceptional skill in handling his company and a complete indifference to danger.´´ Captain John Harold Standrick, M.C., native of Shepton Mallet, Somerset; a Private (no. 3987) in the Inns of Court OTC, served during the Great War with the 18th Battalion London Regiment (London Irish Rifles) in the French Theatre of War from 11.1.1916; he died of wounds 21.2.1918, and is buried in the Jerusalem War Cemetery, Israel.
