Ackland, R.M.), contemporarily engraved in upright serif capitals, contact marks, good fine Estimate £ 80-120 Sergeant William Ackland, born Chumleigh, Devon; joined Royal Marines 1848, service included in H.M.S. Melampus, 4.6.1850-16.8.1856, ´´served during the operations in the Crimea in 1854-5, was present in the battle of Balaklava, has the Crimean Medal, with clasps for Balaklava and Sebastopol, and Turkish Crimean Medal´´ (Service Papers refer); discharged 1869, after 21 years service.
