Beans. 1/R.B.), engraved in upright serif capitals, number partially officially corrected; India General Service 1854-95, one clasp, Jowaki 1877-8 (2584 Pte. Geo. Brans. [sic] 4 Bn. Rifle Bde.); Afghanistan 1878-80, one clasp, Ali Musjid (2584. Pte. G. Beans 4th Bn. Rifle Bde.), contact marks overall, therefore nearly very or better (3) Estimate £ 600-800 2584 Private George Beans, born Marylebone, London, 1850; enlisted and assigned number ´´1339´´ (from 2nd Middlesex Militia) 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade, 1868; arrived with the battalion in Ottawa, 29.9.1968, and served with them during the Fenian Raid 1870; arrived back in England, 20.9.1870, and transferred 4th Battalion Rifle Brigade, now with the number ´´2584´´; he served with the battalion as part of the Peshawar Column against the Jowaki Afridis, and later served as part of the Peshawar Field Force at the assault and capture of Ali Musjid; discharged 1889, after 21 years service with the Colours. Approximately 74 ´´Fenian Raid 1870´´ clasps to 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade.
