Bond, Royal Navy Baltic 1854-55, unnamed as issued; China 1857-60, two clasps, Canton 1857, Taku Forts 1858, unnamed as issued, suspension slack; Ashantee 1873-74, no clasp (H.C. Bond. Py. Offr. 1Cl. H.M.S. Rattlesnake 73-74); Naval Long Service & G.C., V.R. (H.C. Bond Qr. Mr. H.M.S. Duncan 20yrs), light contact marks overall, otherwise generally good very fine, and scarce (4) Estimate £ 500-550 Quarter Master Henry Bond, born Loose, Kent, 1836; joined the Royal Navy as Boy Second Class, 1851; served in H.M.S. Tyne during the Baltic Campaign; served in H.M.S. Hesper, 1857-61, advancing to Petty Officer status in April 1860; served as Quarter Master in H.M.S. Phaeton and Philomel before serving H.M.S. Rattlesnake during the Ashantee War, 1873-74. He was awarded his L.S. & G.C. 22.7.1875 as Quarter Master, H.M.S. Duncan, his medal being one of the scarce narrow suspension awards to have the recipient´´s years of service engraved upon the edge. Provenance: Captain K.J. Douglas-Morris, R.N., Collection
