India 1880 (26 May) part printed regimental envelope "From No. 920 pte J.H. Mickleburgh H M´s 54th. (West Norfolk) Regiment" at Delhi to England and countersigned by the Commanding Officer, marked "via Brindersie" and bearing 9p. mauve and 1a. brown each cancelled with "1" duplex, Bombay (23.5) and Norwich (17.6) c.d.s. on reverse; a few minor fox marks, otherwise fine Estimate £ 140-180 Note: The "via Brindisi" route had been experimentally open from 1874, the cost via this route for a soldier being 2a.9p. With the closing of the Southampton route the soldiers rate was reduced to 1a.9p.
