Regt". to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and showing circular "india soldier &/3/london", Madras Ship Letter oval d.s. and, on reverse, "madras/soldiers letter/free" c.d.s. and framed "india letter/hastings", 1840 (21 Apr.) entire "From Jno Hughes Corporal No3 Compy 2nd. European Regiment, Soldiers Letter" at Hazareebaugh to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer, rated "8" and showing, on reverse fair "hazareebaugh/free" oval d.s. in magenta, Calcutta Ship Letter d.s. and part arrival c.d.s., and 1840 (20 Oct.) entire letter "From Gunr G Brown 2nd. T. 1st. B. H.A." at Indore to England, rated "2" and showing Derby arrival c.d.s. (10.12) on face and indistinct "free" oval d.s. in magenta on reverse; the first with faults though an interesting pair showing the difference in charges between Ship Letter and Packet charges after the introduction of Uniform Penny Postage in England Estimate £ 200-250
