Great Britain 1840 (8 May) stampless wrapper to Edinburgh "P Paid" bearing handstruck "1" in red ink cancelled by pale dull red Maltese Cross with boxed "doune" datestamp in lower corner and Edinburgh arrival; light vertical filing crease and arrival notation in upper corner. A fine and remarkable cover showing the incorrect use of the Maltese Cross cancellation to cancel the Penny Paid handstamp.
