x Queensland Covers and Cancellations 1862 (15 Dec.) blue envelope (222x100mm.) registered from Brisbane to England, marked "Via Marseilles", bearing 1860-61 wmk. Small Star, clean-cut perf 14-16 "registered" (6d.) olive-yellow and rough perf 14-16 1/- violet strip of four, all cancelled by concentric ovals, showing unframed "registered/brisbane", "Crown/registered" h.s. and London transit d.s. (12.2), both in red, with despatch and arrival (12.2) datestamps on reverse. A rare and most attractive franking. RPSV Certificate (2007) states the 1/- is clean-cut perf with which we disagree. S.G. 11, 19. Photo Estimate £ 4,500-5,000 Note: This cover is the equal highest recorded franking of the Queensland Chalons with another later period cover addressed to Germany. It is also the largest known multiple of the 1/- value and is considered one of the most important covers of the perforated Chalons.
