x Yemen, Mutawakkilite Kingdom, al-Nasir Ahmad bin Yahya (1948-62), AV 1-, 1/2-, 1/4-Riyal (4-, 2-, 1-Sovereigns), 31.62g, 16.05g, 7.92g, AH1371, name of Imam and accession date AH1367 in design of expanding circles above two curved swords, sovereign value counter-struck between, rev. Kalima in circular panel, with date and mint name in borders (KM.G15, G16.1, G17; Fr.8, 9, 10), the first with small obverse die crack and evidence of light mounting on edge at 12 and 6 o/clock, the others with lesser edge irregularities, good extremely fine, the Riyal very rare (3) Estimate £ 8,000-10,000 These gold issues were off-strikes of the heavy silver coins. They were intended for the treasury and as donative coins by the imam.
