George III, British Naval and Military Victories of the Reign, a set of forty bronze medals, published by James Mudie in 1820, celebrating the Naval and Military Victories of the Napoleonic Wars, from Lord Howe´s Naval Victory off Ushant in 1794 up to the Settlement of the Ionian Islands in 1817, extremely fine, in original green leather case in the form of a book, the medals in two trays, the lid embossed with the Royal Arms, one gilt side of the case is missing, otherwise in very fine condition (40) Estimate £ 1,200-1,400 Mudie advertised this set of medals, which he dedicated ´´by permission´´ to the Prince Regent, in a published prospectus entitled ´´Prospectus of a Grand Series of Forty Medals commemorating British Victories´´ in which he lists those who have already subscribed to the series. Bronze medals were advertised at ´´10/6d each, or Twenty Guineas the Series, including an elegant Case arranged for the Library or Cabinet´´. Complete sets in the original case are rare.
