x Great Britain Postal History 1840 Uniform Penny Postage Treasury Competition Essays 1839 "Stamps" leaflet, attributed to either Henry Cole or James Chalmers with text extolling the benefits of pre-paid stamps to be affixed to envelope or wrapper with examples of 1d., 2d., 4d. and 6d. designs. Some horizontal folding creases and faint tone spot, otherwise extremely fresh and fine. This is considered to be the most important of the Mercantile papers and superb exhibition item. It is thought that 1500 of these sheets were printed but only five or six having survived. Photo Estimate £ 2,500-3,000
