(T.F.) attd. 265th Bde. ´´For distinguished service in connection with Military Operations in Egypt.´´ M.I.D. London Gazette 14.6.1918 Lt. K.F. Kingwell, Honourable Artillery Company and Royal Horse and Royal Field Artillery (T.F.). (Egypt). Captain Kenneth Francis Kingwell, M.C., born Budleigh Salterton, Devon, 1880; educated at Fairfield College, Exeter; was a regular for the 1st XV of Rugby Football Club, 1904-09; prior to the Great War served as Sergeant-Major 4th Midland Royal Field Artillery; served during the Great War with the Royal Field Artillery in the French Theatre of War, from February 1915; Lieutenant 1.6.1916; Acting Captain 31.7.1917-8.9.1917; whilst serving in the Egyptian Theatre of War he received a, ´´G.S.W. L. Arm, L. Thigh, 27.12.1917, Jerusalem´´ (Papers refer); Kingwell was taken to Cairo before being invalided to Berkeley Square, London, where he was under treatment until September 1918, and his eventual discharge, ´´This officer asks to resign his commission through ill-health due to wounds´´ (entitled to Silver War Badge, No. 80740); after the war he worked for the British Thomson Houston Co. Ltd in Rugby, and served as a Section Leader in the Warwickshire Special Constabulary, 1932-45; in retirement Kingwell lived in Teignmouth, Devon. There is a note included with the medals which suggests that Kingwell was awarded his M.C. for gallantry ´´with 2nd Lieutenant Mitchell, on 20 [sic].7.1917 aided a wounded officer of the 5th Bedfords in no mans land (around Jerusalem)´´.
