Uniform (lot) Estimate £ 600-700 Colonel Jacques Aline Pierre Albert Dôme (1915-2004), was born in Leige, and at the outbreak of the Second World War trained at Oostend Shooting School, prior to taking part in the first bombing mission of the Belgian Air Force, 11.5.1940, on the Albert Canal bridges, for which he was awarded the Croix de Guerre: "On the 11th May 1940 during the course of a particularly dangerous bombing mission over the suburbs of Maastricht, his plane was violently attacked and shot down by a number of enemy aircraft. He was heavily wounded on the hands". He was evacuated by hospital train to Northern France, where he founded the Walloon Work Volunteers, a patriotic organization who maintained the spirit of youth during the period of German occupancy. In 1942 he joined the Belgian Resistance, and served with them until the end of the War, when he subsequently established and ran the first Under-Officers school for the Belgian Air Force. He was promoted Captain Aviator in 1943, and Major Aviator, with the Command of the 4th Squadron, 1st Wing, Belgian Air Force in 1952, and was posted to Leopoldville, Belgian Congo, as Head of Operations in 1954. Dôme returned to Belgium in 1957 with the post of Interception Controller, and was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel Aviator in 1959, retiring with the rank of Colonel in 1966.
