India General Service 1854-95, one clasp, Burma 1885-7 (Major H. Melliss. Bo. S.C.), nearly extremely fine Estimate £ 350-400 Colonel Sir Howard Melliss, K.C.S.I. (1847-1921), educated privately and at Royal Military College Sandhurst; commissioned Ensign, 33rd Foot, 1865; served with the regiment in Abyssinia and was present at the action of Arogee and the storming and capture of Magdala (Medal); transferred 21st Foot 1868, and to the Bombay Staff Corps the following year; Captain 1877; served in the Afghan War 1878-80 as Deputy Assistant Quartermaster-General, 2nd Division, Kandahar Field Force (Medal); served with the Egyptian Expedition, 1882, as A.Q.M.G. of the Indian Contigent and was present at the Battle of Tel-El-Kebir and the occupation of Cairo (Mentioned in Despatches; Medal with clasp; Khedive´´s Star; 4th Class Medjidieh; Brevet Major); served in Burma 1885, as Military Attache to the Naval Commander-in-Chief (Mentioned in Despatches); D.A.Q.M.G., Bombay, 1881-84 and A.Q.M.G., in the same Presidency, 1884-86; Chief Inspecting Officer of Native States Armies, East Indies, from 1890; Lieutenant-Colonel 1891 (C.S.I. 1893; K.C.S.I. 1897).
