Three: Sergeant A.G. Wells, Royal Air Force 1939-1945 Star; Air Crew Europe Star; War Medal, extremely fine, with named Air Council condolence slip, in card box of issue addressed to ´Mrs. G.E. Wells, 15A The Broadway, Preston Road, N. Wembley, Middlesex´ (3) Estimate £ 150-180 1286485 Sergeant Alexander George Wells, the husband of Gladys Ena Wells, served as Wireless Operator/ Air Gunner with 166 Squadron (Wellingtons), Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, during the Second World War, and was killed in action during the Battle of Hamburg, 25.7.1943. His Wellington, skippered by Warrant Officer G. Ashplant, C.G.M., one of almost 800 bombers to take part in the raid, was hit by flak and crashed at Buchholz. Sergeant Wells was initially buried with his crew-mates at Buchholz; his body was later exhumed and reburied in Hamburg Cemetery, Germany.
