Great Britain Surface Printed 1872-73 6d., the De La Rue ink recipe book entry, bearing a playing card Duty Ace struck in the issued colour and with the recipe alongside. Endorsed at left "In January 1872 the "Tyrian Purple" No. 610 was abandoned for the 6d. Postage, and this ink was used in its stead" and at foot "In February 1872 this ink was abandoned for the above Postage and was superseded by the "Olive Ink" no. 765"; fine. A unique piece and a very rare example of the Duty Ace being used as a colour sample, normally the De La Rue dummy stamp was used. Photo Estimate £ 250-300
