Great Britain Line Engraved 1841-53 One Penny Red-Brown Black Plates Plate 9, JD, placed at upper-left (contrary to regulations) and tied by "733" 1844 type cancellation to entire letter dated June 14 1844 from stockport to Congleton, good to large margins all round, dated marking on reverse, fine and extremely rare. The only usage of a Black Plate 9 1d. red on cover with 1844 type cancellation, indeed the only other recorded cover known by us to bear a Black Plate 1d. red with 1844 type cancellation is a cut into Plate 1b.
