A Great War ´French Theatre´ M.M. to Sergeant E. Bottomley, York and Lancaster Regiment Military Medal, G.V.R (21429 Sjt. E. Bottomley. 6/Shrops. [sic] L.I.), worn, good fine Estimate £ 80-100 M.M. London Gazette 23.7.1919 21429 Sjt. Bottomley, E., 6th Bn York & Lancs (Wakefield). Only one 21429 Sergeant E. Bottomley was awarded the M.M. during the Great War and he served with the 6th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment. It would appear that the regimental details on the edge of his medal were impressed in error during the naming process, perhaps not particularly surprising given the numbers of medals that would have had to have been named up in a day.
