Wyon, 76mm, bronze, Professor Richard Jelf on obverse, Arms of King´s College, London, on reverse (BHM 2920), good very fine Estimate £ 80-100 Canon Richard William Jelf (1798-1871), educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford; appointed Fellow of Oriel College, Oxford; Ordained 1821; Canon of Christ Church; Appointed Preceptor to H.R.H. Prince George, Duke of Cumberland, 1826; Principal of King´´s College London, 1844-68. The Jelf Medal was established at King´´s College in his memory; it is awarded to the student who, in the view of the Principal, has most distinguished themselves during their undergraduate career in the College.
