Good Hope.), the first extremely fine, the second very fine (2) Estimate £ 100-120 Valentine Charles Burbridge, born Portsmouth, Hampshire, February 1878; enlisted in the Royal Navy, February 1896, serving in H.M.S. St. Vincent; advanced Petty Officer First Class, 23.9.1903; transferred to H.M.S. Glasgow, 27.9.1910; awarded Long Service & G.C. Medal, 25.1.1911; transferred to H.M.S. Excellent, 17.9.1912; to H.M.S.Venus, 12.12.1914; Chief Petty Officer, 1.3.1915; retired, 28.2.1919. Edwin Lee, born Fareham, Hampshire, November 1873; enlisted in the Royal Navy, November 1891, serving in H.M.S. St. Vincent; advanced Petty Officer First Class, March 1898; transferred to H.M.S. Good Hope, 28.3.1905; awarded Long Service & G.C. Medal, 21.11.1906; transferred to H.M.S. Victory, 16.7.1907, and continued his service throughout the Great War. H.M.S. Glasgow and H.M.S. Good Hope both took part at the Battle of Coronel, 1.11.1914, when, together with the cruiser HMS Monmouth, they engaged the German East Asia Cruiser Squadron, including the new cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. Glasgow alone managed to escape; Good Hope and Monmouth were both lost with all hands.
