L.I. 11472 Private John Willie Howell, M.M., born Normanton, Yorkshire; served during the Great the War with the 6th Battalion Yorkshire Light Infantry on the Western Front from, 21.5.1915; Howell´´s Battalion were in action on the Somme during August-September 1916; they took part in operations around the Delville Wood area before transferring to the Arras Sector at the end of September; Howell died of wounds, 20.5.1917, and is buried in the Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty, France.
