Horwood, Berkshire Regiment Military Medal, G.V.R., with Second Award Bar (12572 L.Sjt: C.Horwood. 6/R.Berks.R.), nearly very fine Estimate £ 350-400 M.M. London Gazette 21.12.1916 12572 L./Sjt (A/C.S.M.) C. Horwood 6th Bn. R. Berks M.M. Second Award Bar London Gazette 2.11.1917 12572 L/Sjt (A/C.S.M.) C. Horwood 6th Bn. R. Berks (London). 12572 Company-Sergeant-Major Charles Horwood, M.M., served during the Great War with the 6th (Service) Battalion Berkshire Regiment in the French Theatre of War, from 25.7.1915; Horwood´´s Battalion as part of the 53rd Brigade, 18th (Eastern) Division, were in action on the Somme from the 1st of July to the end of October 1916, in particular: on the 1st Day of the Battle of the Somme, when they suffered 351 casualties; in action at Delville Wood, 19th-21st July, when they suffered 176 killed or wounded; in action at Thiepval, at the end of September when they repulsed an enemy counter attack, and on the 21st of October when they were in action during the capture of Regina Trench.
