New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated 1845-1846 (W. Bennett, A.B., H.M.S. Castor), minor solder strengthening to right-hand side of suspension claw, nearly extremely fine and scarce Estimate £ 400-500 William Bennett, born Devonport, Devon; service in the Royal Navy, including in H.M.S. Pilot, 1.11.1841-9.5.1843, and in H.M.S. Castor, from the latter he was discharged 16.11.1847. Approximately 155 New Zealand medals dated 1845-46 were awarded, of which approximately 62 were issued to H.M.S. Castor, 30 of which are known. (Naval Medals 1793-1856, K. Douglas-Morris, refers).
