A Waterloo Medal to Corporal E. Coyle, 23rd Light Dragoons, Wounded on the Field at Waterloo Waterloo 1815 (Edward Coyle 23rd Reg Light Dragoons), with original steel clip and contemporary steel ring, edge bruising, good fine Estimate £ 1,200-1,400 Corporal Edward Coyle, born Dewlick, Meath, Ireland, 1783; served in Troop No 3 under Captain Roderick McNeill during the Waterloo Campaign, where he was described as ´´especially good having served in Flanders particularly in the Battle of Waterloo where he received several wounds´´ (papers refer); ´´Edward Coyle was wounded several times in the left leg. The wounding suggests that Coyle was involved in hand to hand fighting with French Cavalry and Infantry. On the 19th of June Coyle was transported to hospital at Brussels along with 43 other wounded from the regiment.´´ (A Soldiers Story refer); transferred to 23rd Lancers, May 1816; discharged November 1817, when the Regiment was disbanded. A large amount of research is sold with this lot.
